How to Get Local Business Leads Online

image portraying lead generationHey there, thanks for stopping by.  You found this website because something led you to conduct a search on Google that could help you find ways to generate leads for your business by using the internet.

Whether you are a plumber, electrician, remodeler, chiropractor, dentist, or any other type of business owner you know darn well that generating new leads and acquiring new clients is crucial to survival.  In this post, we will talk about ways you can achieve this goal for your own business.  Let’s dive in.

Ways to Generate Leads For Your Business Online

There are a lot of different ways business owners go about creating exposure for their business using the net.  Below, I will list some of the more popular ways and talk a little about each one.  Hopefully, it helps you narrow down which method would be best for your business because making that decision is the first step.

Note – I don’t like to make assumptions, but in this day and age you SHOULD already have a website.  If you do, be sure to check out our free website audit page.  If you don’t, we offer amazing package deals for people looking to get going online so contact us to learn more about that.

In no particular order, here are the most popular ways local business owners are generating leads for their business online:

  • Social Media – Do you have Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Linkedin, Pinterest, or any of the other popular social media sites?  I am guessing you do, but if you don’t you are probably one of the few!  These social media websites present a great opportunity for business owners to spread the word about their business.  This method requires consistent action but can produce great results if done properly.  It is also a great way to build rapport with new and existing customers.
  • Blogging/Content Marketing – This one is exactly what it says it is.  Blogging and content marketing is a solid strategy but is something that will not bring immediate results.  It is a great way to show you are an authority in your respective niche but requires consistent action and some traffic getting skills, such as SEO or social media.  Blogging is also a great way to beef up your website with content, which can be used to interlink to other important pages on your website.  Should you have a blog on your website?  Read my take here.
  • Paid Ads – Unlike blogging and content marketing, paid ads can bring immediate exposure.  Some people prefer this method of marketing, and you can get going with this on social media sites or with Google and Bing Ads.  A few things to keep in mind when considering PPC is that when you turn a campaign off or stop paying, the traffic ALL stops.  Competition can be fierce in some niches, and you can find yourself paying a LOT of money just for a click.  Not a call or lead, a click.  When running paid ads it is crucial that your website is optimized for conversions because the last thing you want to do is pay for the traffic then have them bounce because your site does not do a good job of getting the desired action.
  • Video Marketing – Video marketing is a great way to go about getting exposure to your business.  YouTube is the #2 search engine in the world behind Google so it is definitely worth looking into!  Videos also help create some rapport, because when a potential customer views one of your videos they almost feel like they know you which can help with converting them into a paying customer.  Some other skills are required with video marketing because you need to get the video in front of people (traffic) for it to be effective.
  • SEO – Ahhh, last but not least SEO!  If you don’t know what SEO means, it is short for Search Engine Optimization.  As you can see, my business is SEO, and this is my preferred method of generating leads for business owners.  In a nutshell, SEO is about capitalizing on the keywords that people plug into Google.  When a search is conducted, the user will see ads, maps (sometimes), and the organic results.  If you are #1 in Google you are the first site listed that is not an ad, not including those maps listings.  Google provides marketers heat maps that show where the clicks are.  They have made every attempt to get more people to click on the ads because they get paid when an ad is clicked, but those heat maps indicate that more often than not, people will either click on those maps listings or the organic search results.  That is where you want to be, especially if you are a local business owner.  Unlike PPC, SEO is generally not going to provide you with instant traffic, however, once you arrive at the top you can count on steady, consistent traffic and leads 24/7 365.  Feel free to contact us to discuss our SEO services.  If you want to get going right away, take 5 minutes to fill out the information on our Discovery Page and we will take a look then get back to you promptly.

These are the top 5 ways a business owner can go about generating leads for their business using the internet.  Is there a clear-cut best way to go about it?  No.  For some businesses, social media will work better than other strategies, while other businesses might achieve greater ROI from SEO.  The best thing you can do is learn about each strategy then make a decision and get going!

Closing Thoughts…

It is an exciting time we live in.  There are a lot of great ways to grow your business, and using the internet to help you get customers is a great way to go about it.  The Yellow Pages are dead, and now is the time to get your business going online.  Every day you stand by and wait is another day your competition is sucking up those leads.   I have told you how to get local business leads online and have shared my top 5 methods for bringing exposure to your business, it is now up to you to act on the info you have been presented with.

Best Hosting For Affiliate Marketers (2018 Review)

Hey there, thanks for stopping by my blog and reading this post.  You are here because you are an affiliate marketer and want to know what the best hosting company is for your affiliate website.  With so many hosting companies out there it sure can be hard to choose which ones will be best for your project, and it is definitely an area you are wise to think about before going balls to the wall with your new site or project.  In this post, I will get right to the point, and tell you about the best hosting for affiliate marketers that I have found while working online for over 10 years now.  Let’s go.

image of a web hosting company

Best Domain Host For Affiliate Marketing

So many of us get roped into using the hosting offered by whatever registrar we use, I know I have.  For a lot of us, we just don’t know better at the time and figure the best course of action is to have it all in one place.  While that may seem like the prudent course of action, it doesn’t necessarily mean it is.  Before I go into this and reveal my answer, let me explain WHY hosting is a crucial part of the equation.

Hosting & SEO

Does hosting play a role in your SEO efforts?  The answer to that question is a little muddy, so let me tell you what I do know for sure:

  1. Ranking in Google consists of many different ranking signals.
  2. Site speed (page load speed), site security (SSL ==> https), server location, and uptime (the time the site is reachable) are confirmed ranking signals.
  3. Crappy hosts make for slow loading sites.
  4. Crappy hosts do not offer or make you pay a lot for SSL.
  5. Crappy hosts have limited server locations.
  6. Crappy hosts have poor uptime ratings.

Knowing these things to be true, does hosting affect SEO?  You bet your arse it does!!

It only stands to reason that if you are going to be starting a new affiliate project (or if you want to improve the one you already have going) that these are ducks you WANT to have in a row!  Using an inferior host can sabotage your project right from the jump, and you could end up wasting a lot of time and money in the process, while not getting the results you want.

The goal is (if not it should be) to do as little off-site work as possible to rank and create traffic to your affiliate website.  Using a reputable host that provides you with fast load times, SSL, a local server, and 99% and higher uptimes makes sense.  Get these SEO ranking signals right, and you will be off to a great start online!

Note – Even if you plan on obtaining traffic through other mediums, having unsecured, slow loading sites still looks bad and WILL hurt conversions.  The end.

Does Great Hosting Cost More??

image depicting the cost of somethingIn most cases, you get what you pay for.  This happens to be one of those cases where you get a LOT more than you pay for with my #1 hosting company for affiliate marketing.

Let me ask you this.  Does $4 per month sound like a lot of money to shell out for a host that offers everything listed above, and even more?  If you answered yes, then I think you might be looking for something of the free variety, and I can all but guarantee in that case you WILL get what you pay for!

Doing business has costs.  Having your site hosted on lighting fast local servers, that gives you over 99% uptime, free SSL AND also has the absolute best customer support I have ever seen in my time online is absolute gold in the online marketing industry and to get all that for a shade under $4 p/m is absurd!  So who is the mystery company?  Let me share!

Does Hosting Affect SEO – Get The Facts

Hello, thanks for stopping by.  You are here because you want to know if web hosting affects SEO.  Well, I am glad you are here and I am happy to clear this question up for you.  Not only will I answer it, but I will explain the reason for my answer in depth and you will have no shred of doubt in your mind after you get through this.  Let’s do it!

image of web hosting in regards to search engine optimization

Does Hosting Affect SEO?

SEO…  One of the most intriguing things out there.  What works? Who do you believe?  So many questions and so many different answers.  Well, you are here reading my blog so I guess I will do my best to prove my worth to you at this point.  I do have my own SEO agency, and have been in the biz for over 10 years so I know a little something about all this, but my goal is to guide you and give you honest advice.  You can always read more about me to learn more about who I am and my place in this industry, just visit that page for more info.

I am not one to beat around the bush, so I am going to get right to it and answer your question, does web hosting have any affect on SEO?  The short and definitive answer is YES!

Now, please allow me to explain…

There are a lot of reasons why hosting plays a role in SEO.  Here are some of the main ones you should be concerned with:

image of a speedometer indicating the speed of a websiteWebsite Speed

One of the ranking signals Google has that website owners have TOTAL control over is website speed.  Google says our pages should load in 2 seconds or less, and they have confirmed that this is a ranking signal so it would be best to adhere to that rule of thumb.  A slow loading page or site will have higher bounce rates.

High bounce rates are seen as poor user experience in the eyes of Google, so this is something we want to avoid at all costs.  A quality web host will provide you with a faster loading site and get you off to a good start.  Of course, image optimization and other things like plugins will also determine speed but with a poor host, you are doomed from the jump.  You can check site speed with Google’s free tool, Pingdom, or GT Metrix.  There are also many great resources you can find online to help speed your site up, like this one.

Server Uptime/Downtime

an image portraying website downtime due to server problemsYes, this is a thing and if you don’t pay attention it can sneak up on you and hold your site back from performing well.  One of the first (if not the first) things you should look into when investigating a hosting company is downtime.  Frequent web server downtime is a clear indication of a low-quality host, and you should avoid doing business here.

Downtime is basically the amount of time your website is not accessible because of problems with the host server.  This can affect SEO because search engine spiders are crawling sites every second of every day, and the more times a spider crawls or attempts to crawl your site and finds it inaccessible the better the chance there is of seeing your rankings dinged.  Google is all about user experience, and the last thing they want to do is award rankings to unreliable websites.  A web hosting company that does a good job will see uptimes of over 99.5%.  Don’t settle for anything less.

image depicting seo server locationServer Location

On a given search, search engines like Google and Bing take server location into consideration as another ranking signal.  They determine a site’s location based on the IP address of the hosting plan they have purchased.  Basically, if you are doing business in the United States don’t buy hosting from a company that has IP’s in England, or Australia, or anywhere OTHER than the United States.

Does it Matter Where Your Website is Hosted?

Hopefully by now you know the answer to that question.  Having a strong online presence is achieved when you put everything together, and even the things like this that people often overlook can make a big difference in the long haul.

A good analogy for this would be bodybuilding.  Can you have a 6 pack if you do not have a strong core?  Can you squat big weight if you have weak legs?  Can you achieve great cardio if you don’t get up and move??  No to all of the above!  A strong presence on the web consists of many different things, and having a good web host is absolutely 1 of them.  Unfortunately, so many people strike out in this department and don’t even know that it matters.

Best Website Hosting For SEO?

There are some great hosts out there.  However, we have a #1 recommendation for a hosting company that knocks it out of the park in every possible way, and they have affordable plans to boot!

Since this post was created to answer the question does hosting affect SEO, we will not go to deep into other topics in this post.  BUT… If you would like to save money on hosting, get FREE SSL (https), enjoy lightning fast speeds, have EXTREMELY LOW downtime, and enjoy the best customer support I have seen in a web host in my entire time online, you need to check out this Siteground hosting review right now.

Note – Siteground will move your website onto their host for free when you sign up for a new account!

Closing Thoughts…

Web hosting and SEO have a definite relationship.  Can you rank with crappy hosting?  Yes.  Can you have the best hosting and not rank?  No doubt about it.

Hosting is just one of those things that you want to get right.  You can’t make the best sugar cookies if you don’t get the ingredients right.  Just like sugar cookies, a strong web presence requires you to get the ingredients (ranking signals) right.  If you do, you will reap the rewards of beautiful, 24/7 organic traffic.

Siteground Reviews – What Sets Siteground Apart From the Competition

Hey there, thanks for stopping by and checking out my Siteground hosting review.  While there is no shortage of web hosting companies around the world, one company has been taking the world by storm from Bulgaria since 2004.

Imagine, if you will, how hard it must be for a web hosting company to compete in the world of internet hosting. Now, imagine how one company has managed to rank number one across the globe numerous times from a small country and English as their second language. That’s pretty impressive. Now imagine, that they manage to do all that and continue to rank number one year over year. Now we are impressed.

siteground hosting review

Siteground Hosting offers a variety of hosting packages to small, medium and large-sized businesses around the globe. Though they started in Bulgaria, it did not take them long to become a success and make their mark in the world. The founder of Siteground is credited with being one of the brightest internet geniuses of our time, and it’s no wonder people say that about him: he’s created one hell of a company. What makes this an even better story is that Siteground is private. Yup, that’s right. It’s not a publically held company.

Of course, there are lots of other web hosting services to choose from. That’s why it’s important to do your homework to understand what the best service for your business needs are; and even if Siteground isn’t the web hosting service for you, you’ll learn a thing or two about what you do need in a web hosting service by reading this review.

Note – If you take a look at this website, you will notice that I do not do very many product reviews and/or promotions, it is mostly value-based information.  I feel so strongly about Siteground, that I felt the need to share this with you all, so sit back and enjoy this review of this amazing hosting company.

Siteground Hosting Review – Let’s Dive In

When it comes to choosing the right hosting service for your website needs, website speed is an essential factor to consider. Siteground offers some of the fastest speeds around. Speed matters for many reasons, but the most important reason is in keeping the customer interested in your website. If a potential customer types your web address in their web browser and has to wait for any length of time for your site to load, you increase the risk of losing them with every second that passes.

website speed and seo

Siteground has set up several data centers all around the world near major population centers to ensure the best turn around time on website loading and hits. What’s more, they have done an excellent job of identifying and allocating their resources so that they don’t tax their servers all at once; this means that customers and clients can share bandwidth and improve speed overall.

Below are the 4 main data center hubs Siteground has as of late 2017.

siteground data centers around the world

Security is on the minds of everyone on the web these days, and the gang at Siteground have been dealing with security issues since they launched in 2004. And by dealing with, we mean, handling and solving security issues. These guys have perfected the art of keeping their websites safe. They do daily backups of their data to ensure that nothing is lost; they offer free SSL to their customers to make sure online transactions are safe and to meet guidelines of internet usage and are continually improving their packages to make sure they stay number one in the industry.

* Note – You can look into FREE SSL with Siteground HERE.

Amazing Support

As if all of this wasn’t enough, Siteground does an amazing job of providing help and support to all of its clients. No matter how good a hosting service is, there are bound to be issues, and when things go sideways, Siteground does a spectacular job of turning things around.  They offer 24/7 live chat, and their ticket system is almost always answered within 1 day.

Below is a screenshot of instant help for one of my Siteground accounts for an affiliate site I run.

Siteground Live Chat

The thing to remember about support reviews is that people who experience good support usually don’t take the time to report it, while people who experience poor support will almost always take to the internet to complain about the terrible service. The difference with Siteground is that you won’t find much of either which means that their customers are happy with the service, and if they aren’t, well, they aren’t saying it out loud for the world to hear.

For a better idea of the kind of support that Siteground offers, just check out their website and you’ll see that customers can reach them by phone, chat, email and through website ticket submissions. If you want to find out for yourself about a hosting company’s ability to perform great customer service and you aren’t already a customer, you can contact them anyway, and they would be happy to talk to you.

A Company That Cares About its Employees

One of the things that impress people about Siteground is that they invest in their employees. We know this because their employees are active in the industry, taking charge of their work and sharing it with the world. They host their tech events, train developers online, and are some of the highest-profile contributors to the WordPress community around.

When a company allows its employees to shine, it’s apparent that they are confident in their ability to maintain their business on all levels. When companies are scared of poaching or worried about competition taking up ideas, they tend to be internally focused. Siteground’s model is about giving in as many ways as possible, and they do an excellent job of contributing to the tech community and space at large.

Transparency Matters

A movement started to develop over the last decade whereby companies began to share intimate reports about their companies. Siteground has embraced it. They are as transparent as a hosting company can get with the rest of the world. They are excellent at sharing resources online, providing events for developers to attend, being accessible to their customers and potential customers across a variety of platforms. They also stay current with what’s happening in the market and provide one of the best hosting services on the planet.

===> Click Here to Check Out Siteground Hosting <===

They offer clients a simple sign-up process, without annoying up-selling throughout the entire process. Siteground provides the IP addresses of their data centers so you can test for yourself just how fast their uptime and response time is based on where you are in the world. That’s pretty great for people who are shopping around for an excellent web hosting service. Finally, Siteground spends a lot of time in the tech community helping to build the community and train others to contribute to the community as well. They value input and transparency as a way to collaborate and add to the global purpose online.

What You Should Know About Siteground Hosting

Siteground is known for its high speeds, top-notch security, and transparency as a whole, but they do have a few areas in which they could be working to improve upon. Honestly, it’s probably only a matter of time before they fix these minor issues. The truth is that these things aren’t slowing them down: they continue to rank number one in the world, but if we are fair in our review, then we need to show you what’s under the hood too.

Siteground Features

The first thing is that while Siteground has loads of great features in their plans, there aren’t many plans to choose from. They offer only three options, which are all pretty affordable, but sometimes customers like a little more choice, instead of being forced into a limited choice.

The Unique Value Proposition

So here’s the thing: you can buy web hosting from any Tom, Dick, or Harry on the internet. It’s everywhere. It’s also dirt cheap. You can buy web hosting for pennies on the dollar in some cases, and honestly, Siteground is in line with some of the more affordable web hosting services on the market.

What makes these guys stand out is the sheer amount of time they have been in the business. They are not a fly-by-night hosting company that will leave you hanging.

===> Check Out Siteground Hosting Packages Now <===

For a few dollars a month you have reliable hosting services you can count on. And that’s worth every penny you are going to spend to get your website up and running. Their unique value proposition is found in their culture, their contribution, and the commitment to the industry. Siteground isn’t just in it for themselves; they are here for anyone who wants a piece of the internet to call their own, and get excellent support along with it.  SIteground is our top recommendation when it comes to hosting, and it appears they are just getting started!

How to Rank in Local Search: Step By Step Guide

Hey there, thanks for stopping by to read our step by step guide regarding how to rank in local search.  We feel very confident that this blog post will be our SEO company has published to date, because we have every intention of delivering the goods, and leaving nothing out.  Let’s jump right in!

You are here reading this because you know how important it is for your website to show up when someone searches Google for the products and/or services you offer in the city/area where you do business.  In a nutshell, this is what local search is all about.

How to Rank In Local Search – Step By Step

When it comes to SEO and ranking for local search terms (keywords), it is important NOT to put the cart before the horse.  Wherever you are at in your SEO marketing plan, it is crucial take care of the essentials, like having quality hosting, a mobile friendly site, and a fast loading site.

For long term SEO you should also do nothing but focus on your brand before doing anything else.  If you don’t rank #1 when you search your brand, you have no business targeting any keywords.  Take a look at what it should look like, as I show the results when I searched for my company name.

ranking for my brand

Before targeting any keywords, this is a must, and this is done by setting up your website properly (setting up your site title, meta etc), and creating social profiles with your brand name as the username that link back to your website.  A great place to get a list of socials to create is at  You can do these yourself, or you can pay Knowem to do them, but they charge a pretty penny.  You can also contact Badger SEO for help with this if you find it too time consuming and you want better work done than Knowem will provide for less money.

Note: Before heading to Knowem, make sure you have the main socials already done on your own, being Facebook, Twitter, YouTube,Pinterest, LinkedIn, and Instagram.

Even if you rank #1 for your brand, we strongly suggest that you do at least 200 of these profiles.  It will create what we like to call a “social fortress”, and will get you off to a great start, while building the exact types of links big bad Google wants to see.  After all, we are out to please them, and this makes a great first impression.

citations for local searchOnce your social fortress is built and your brand is secured it is time to move on.  Ranking your website is awesome, but ranking in both the Google Maps (assuming you have claimed your listing) as well as in the organic search results is even better!  Luckily, nailing down 1 will help the other so the next step for local search domination is all about citations.

Citations are a critical component for ranking in the Maps, but they also help to establish more trust to your business website while building power.  The links are what is called nofollow, but they carry a great amount of weight.

There is no set number of citation links you will need to rank in the 3 pack of maps listings.  Some niches are harder than others, and some cities are harder than others.  Couple a tough niche in a huge city like Chicago, and you have some serious work to do to get yourself in the 3 pack.

One thing to keep in mind when building your citations is that consistency is HUGE.  Whichever way you have your NAP info (Name, Address, Phone#) listed in your Google My Business account is EXACTLY how you will want it to read across every site you build out a citation on.  If you can’t do it exactly the same on certain sites, don’t sweat it just get it as close as you can.

To find a list of sites you can build out citations on a simple Google search will get you started, however if you are looking to outsource these services you can always contact Badger SEO, or one service I feel good about recommending that can do this for you is found here.

Overwhelmed yet?  If so, contact us to let us do the heavy lifting so you can focus on running your business!  If not, read on!

Okay, so we have worked hard on socials and citations, this is a great start!  In a lot of niches, doing this right will be enough to get you close to page 1, if not there.  Obviously tough niches (like personal injury attorney) in massive cities might be different, but these steps will prove very beneficial when trying to take down even the toughest of keywords.

How to Rank in Local Search – Next Steps

bbbOne thing many local business owners skip for some reason is getting listed in local directories, like the Chamber of Commerce and the Better Business Bureau.  These websites have a massive domain authority, and will definitely help to establish trust and credibility to your own website.  They are worth every penny, and should be done if you are trying to create a solid, white hat SEO foundation.  In fact, these links can come at any stage of the game, the earlier the better.

Following the steps from above will also provide you with a “bulletproof vest” type link profile.  What I mean by that is your site will be less likely to be hurt from a competitor doing negative SEO to your site (yes that happens).  When you go all out on the socials, citations, and high authority directory sites it really let’s Google know you are a legitimate business, which can not only help you rank in local search, but help defend you from people out to hurt your site.  Win win.

YouTube is the #2 search engine in the world, right behind Google.  Guess who owns YouTube?  Yes, Google does, so creating a strong presence with video is a very smart choice.

YouTube videos can and will rank in both Google and YouTube if optimized and backlinked properly.  They provide a nice back link back to your site, and can help bring traffic to your website, which Google absolutely loves to see.

Blog Comments

You will never rank by only using blog comments, but they can be a nice way to get some links from sites that have relevance.  Links back to your website (whether dofollow or nofollow) that have relevance carry some weight, and they are actually pretty easy to find.  Here is a search string you can use to find some blogs to comment on that will bring back links with relevant keywords in the url’s and titles.

keyword and “leave a reply”

For example, if you are a roofing contractor in Minneapolis, you could do this 1 of 2 ways.  You could either put the city in for the keyword, or the niche.  Here is how those would look:

Minneapolis and “leave a reply” or roofing and “leave a reply”

It’s that simple.  Like I mention above, these type of links back to your website will never be enough on their own to rank in local search, but they can absolutely help you get links from relevant sites, provide you with a chance to diversify your anchor text, and potentially bring in some traffic (if the sites you are commenting on are high traffic sites).

Note – Don’t try to use a keyword as your name when doing this.  You will be much less likely to get your comment approved, and you don’t need that because you are getting your relevance from their url and/or title.

Press Releases

If done properly, press releases can be a great way to build authority and trust, as well as diversifying the anchor text links to your website.  PRWeb is widely known as the best press release service on the market and their premium release provides high quality tier 1 links to your website.  A few things to keep in mind when doing press releases are:

  • Use nofollow links only.
  • Create a newsworthy/interesting release.
  • Link in the resource box and use a real person, not a persona (don’t be evasive).

If you follow these rules, a press release can provide a huge blanket of links to your website, and will contribute to that bulletproof vest link profile we are striving for.

Social Signals

Millions of people are spending time on social media every day, so make sure to be involved and engage your audience on sites like Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.  Drop links to your home page as well as any other content that you have that makes sense, and encourage your audience to engage.

Reviews are very helpful when ranking in Google Maps.  Encourage current and past customers to leave a review, because positive reviews will attract new customers who are searching for places to do business with online.  More reviews generally will help you attain higher rankings in the maps, so really encourage your customers to leave those reviews!

Ranking in Local Search – Stealing Links

stealing links for seoThis might sound unethical or bad, but I can assure you that it is common practice in SEO, and is something you SHOULD be doing if you want to get top rankings.

What this entails is using a tool that can evaluate the links of a website, like ahrefs or Majestic, and plugging in the top ranking sites to see where they are getting links from.  The goal is to get links wherever you can that the top ranking sites have.  This can be tedious, and you need to have the tool to do it, but it can help you locate link opportunities you would have otherwise missed.  This is a pretty savvy and stealthy move, but something to not overlook.

Again, if this seems overwhelming to you that is understandable, and you can always count on Badger SEO to get the job done for you.  Just visit our Discovery Page to get started!

How to Rank in Local Search – Target Long Tail Keywords

So many people overlook some of the lesser searched long tail variations of the main keyword.  For example, if you are a Chicago DUI attorney, it could be much easier to target something like best dui attorney in Chicago, or best dui lawyers Chicago.

Targeting these longer tail searches will allow you to rank faster for searches that can bring customers through your door.  These variations add up fast, and can be a great way to get some rankings while working to nail down the big money keyword you are really after.  Create pages on your website as well as videos that target long tails and you can see rankings much faster than if you target the same keywords as everyone else.

Link building is one of the most important things to do when you’re doing SEO. If you’re building links and targeting long tail keywords it’s important to have in mind that this work is time-consuming and sometimes very hard. To ease your work you can use this tool – which can be a huge time saver and also will automate your process and give you the exact link building game plan for any target website.

Other Factors

There are a few other ranking factors you should be aware of that can derail your SEO efforts:

  1. Mobile Friendly  – You MUST have a mobile friendly/responsive website in 2017 and beyond.  Over 70% of all searches now take place on phones, tablets, and other mobile devices, and that percentage is rising.  Most people do not know that there is a separate search engine in google strictly for mobile, and they will not include your website in the results if you are not mobile friendly.
  2. Page Load Speed – Page load speed is another major ranking factor in 2017 and beyond.  What happens when you go to a website and it takes forever to load?  You click back, right?  Most people do because we all hate to wait.  Google sees that and calls it a bounce, and if your bounce rate is bad you will be labeled as a website that provides a poor user experience, and does not give the searcher the information he or she wants.  You know what Google thinks of websites like that?  Yea, not good.

You came here looking to learn how to rank in local search, and hopefully after reading this post you now have a better idea of what it takes.  The strategy I laid out for you in this post is a sure fire way to rank in almost ANY local SEO niche.  In some rare cases, additional, more advanced SEO strategies will have to be applied if you cannot get where you need to be by doing these things.  Just know that these steps make it possible and those advanced strategies CANNOT be put into action without all of this, or you run a high risk of seeing your website get penalized.

These are all local search ranking factors in 2017, and will be well into the future.  So many SEO’s cut corners in hopes of fast rankings.  While they might achieve some success with that strategy, it is a sure fire way to get your site dinged and will not bring long term success.  If you are going to get rankings the last thing you want to do is lose them, so take the time to do it right and you will reap the rewards for a very long time.

How Brand Domination Helps Your SEO

seo branding imageSEO is a tricky game.  Most SEO’s have the wrong idea when starting a campaign to improve rankings.  Instead of trying to dominate the SERP’s (Search Engine Result Pages) for their brand/company name, they set off down a path of using keyword anchor text (clickable links back to a site) in attempts to improve rankings.  This can work if a site already has a ton of branded links from social sites, but is not a good approach for a business that has done no SEO.  If you are unsure what branding entails, this is a great article I found on the topic.

When you Google search your business name do you dominate the 1st few pages?  If not, you have not built the social fortress required to get off on the right foot with Mr. Google.  You see, Mr. Google wants to see a natural link pattern, and natural links are url links, or branded company name.  In my case, this would be or Badger SEO, with both links going back to my homepage.  For your business, it would be your website url or your company name linking back to your site.

Where to Get Branded Links?

I am going to show you a very handy website that can make this process very easy for you.  It will show you all of the sites out there that you can get branded links from, which saves a ton of time because you don’t have to try to find them yourself.  If you want to use their information and build the profiles out on your own that is fine, but they also offer a service to do it for you for a fee.  The site I am referring to is  I highly suggest you take a look and see what branded accounts you have out there, and which ones you can build.  The more of these types of sites you have with your brand name as your username, the better.  After building 50-100 (or more) profiles on these sites, you should have a pretty strong brand established in the online world.  While many of these links are nofollow, they still provide great value in regards to SEO.

These links will build a social fortress that will protect your site, and establish your brand.  While you are doing this, it is also a good idea to build out citations on directory sites.  These will help your rankings in the maps and are also good links to have to point back to your website.

Now What?

So now you have built out citation links, and you have built that fortress of social profiles, using nothing but branded links.  I can tell you this much, Mr. Google will be head over heels for your site at this point, and will reward you for all of the hard work, and white hat SEO you have done.  In this time, you will see your Domain Authority and Page Authority, and trust Flow rise, which will help tremendously with ranking in Google.

You might have the rankings you desire, especially if your niche has some low competition, but in bigger, more competitive niches you will need to do more.  In essence, what you have done is set the table nicely, and you are now ready to take your  SEO to the next level, and start targeting some profitable keyword searches in your niche.

Do It Yourself SEO is possible, but so is do it yourself plumbing, electrical, roofing, and everything else in the world.  Once you have the table set, it is time to make a decision to either try to handle your SEO marketing yourself, or let an experienced professional do it for you.  Badger SEO would love to talk to you about your project, and help you get top rankings in your niche.  Feel free to contact us anytime to discuss that, or for a free website and SEO analysis, visit our Discovery Page and fill out the information there.  We will get back to you within 48 hours with a free video analysis.

Small Business SEO Tips for Do It Yourselfers

small business seo tipsHey there, thanks for stopping by and reading this post.  This post is geared for the do it yourselfers out there that are looking for some small business SEO tips.  This is probably a pretty important few minutes, because handling your own SEO is something you want to take seriously to ensure you do not do anything that could damage your website down the road.

I don’t say that to scare you.  Sure, Badger SEO would love to help you with your SEO, but we also understand that paying for SEO services is not an expense every business owner can take on.  So instead of just offering you nothing, we thought we would offer some solid advice so it can help you get your do it yourself small business SEO off to a good start.

There are a lot of factors that play a role when it comes to seo for small business.  Not every website is equal in the eyes of Google and the other search engines, so it is crucial to know how your site looks before starting so you can take the best approach.

Things you will need to analyze:

  • Domain Authority – DA is number that is created by Moz, and that score/rating is an important part of SEO.  Generally speaking, the higher your DA the better your chance of getting good rankings and attaining traffic are.
  • Page Authority – PA is another score/rating created by Moz.  Every new page you create on your website will start with a PA 1, so even if you build up your DA each page will start at 1.  Having a good DA makes it easier to get a higher PA, as long as you take a good approach to build that PA up.  It is possible to have a higher PA than DA if the page has loads of power, traffic, social signals, and links to it.
  • Trust Flow – Trust Flow, or TF, is a metric developed by Majestic.  Just as it sounds, TF is a number/rating that determines how trustworthy your site/page is, and it is determined by evaluating the incoming links to your site to see how “trustworthy” they are.
  • Citation Flow – Also developed by Majestic, Citation Flow, or CF, is a number/rating that determines how authoritative your site site/page is based on the number of domains linking to it.
  • Site Age – This one is a bit easier.  To put it simply, older sites are better and easier to rank.  An aged domain will generally perform better in search engines than new ones if you were to perform the exact same SEO techniques to each one.
  • On Page SEO – For Local SEO, having good on page SEO is very important.  In smaller niches, where there is not a ton of SEO competition it is possible to rank by just nailing your on page SEO.  The rules are always changing, but one thing you can do to ensure you do it right, and not get your site dinged, is to play it safe and NOT over optimize anything.  If you have your target keyword in your url and in your page title, you probably don’t need it in your content very much, if at all.  You don’t want redundancy, you are better off using related variations to avoid this, and that will also help your page get picked up for other related long tail keywords.  Click here for more on page seo tips.

Knowing the numbers/ratings to look for in all of these takes time.  It is a skill that gets developed by analyzing websites and competition over and over.  Just know, the higher DA, PA, and TF are the better.  Not so much CF though.  A higher TF to CF is a great indication you are doing things in a white hat manner.

This is just a start, but if you cover your bases in all of these areas you will be off to a good start.  In fact, you’d be off to a better start than 80% of the “SEO gurus” would be able to get you.  All too often, SEO’s practice black hat techniques, which might bring short gains but will always end up with long term failure.

These metrics are vital to understanding where your website stands in the eyes of Google.  Once you can gauge that, you can then implement the best plan of action to get the rankings you desire.

More Small Business SEO Tips

seo tips for small businessThe essence of SEO is going to be implementing techniques that can build the numbers and ratings in the metrics above.  To increase those metrics will require savvy link building techniques, things Google WANTS to see, not just buying spammy links from crappy SEO service companies.  Real link building takes time, and is not a push button operation.

If buying seo services for small business is not an option, just know that SEO is not a push button operation.  There is NO easy button here, you either have to take the time to learn the nuances of it all, hire someone else to do it for you, or try to get traffic from another source, like social media.

No matter what your specialty is, I can guarantee you put time, money, sweat, and effort into learning the skills necessary to run your business,  SEO is no different.  Many people think it is a simple thing, and end up doing irreversible damage to their websites, making them “unrankable”.

Don’t be that person.  Play it safe and always make sure what you are doing is okay in the eyes of Google, and you should be okay.  If you have any doubts about handling the job, you are better off doing nothing or hiring a reputable SEO, like us to help you get the job done.

I applaud you for taking the time to read this entire post.  Feel free to contact Badger SEO if you have any questions about anything SEO related.  If you would like have Badger SEO help you with your small business seo, visit our Discovery Page to get the ball rolling.

How to Find Quality Local SEO Services

Badger SEO local SEO servicesHas the time come for your company to gain a presence in the online realm?  Finding quality local SEO services can be a daunting task, but it does not have to be.  In this short post I will share some tips with you to help make ranking in local search easier than ever.

When contracting out local SEO services, you should make sure to do some investigating before just handing your money over to a company or individual.  Here are a few things to consider before going forward:

  • Is the business or person legit?  If it is a business, they should be able to be found online, meaning they should have a Google My Business Page, Yelp, Manta, Yellow Pages, etc…  These directory style websites can give you a quick confirmation that a the company you are talking with is legitimate.
  • How did you find them?  Did you happen to find information on this company or individual by checking Google for SEO services?  Do they have any track record of proof that they can rank anything online?  Before paying someone to help you get ranked online, you should make sure they have at least 1 thing they can show you that they worked on.  It could be a website, video, business listing, or anything else that requires SEO to rank.  A quality SEO should have some great ideas and tips soon after analyzing your site.
  • Do they have any testimonials?  When an SEO does good work for a person or business, they will almost always ask for a testimonial.  These testimonials are important because it shows you that this person has provided quality local SEO services before, and has helped a business enhance their online presence.  You can find testimonials for an SEO on their website, or places like LinkedIn.  You can check out some of my testimonials and recommendations on LinkedIn here.

Before hiring someone to provide local seo services for you, just make sure to investigate these things, and really anything else you feel you should before doing business.
